The village of Lidice, near Prague, was chosen as a target for complete destruction in the wake of the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the Nazi Acting Reich-Protector of Bohemia and Moravia and one of the architects of the Holocaust. Lidice was set on fire, men were shot and women and children sent to concentration camps.
