Mĕlník Castle + Bettina Lobkowicz Winery

Mĕlník Castle + Bettina Lobkowicz Winery – wine-tasting (4 hours)

Mĕlník, the main town of its district, lies about 30 km north of Prague on the vine-clad right bank of the Labe (Elbe) River, opposite the inflow of the Vltava. The town´s origins go back to the 10th century. The urban skyline is dominated by the Gothic Church of Saints Peter and Paul (15th century). From the viewing terrace in front of the Church, there is a charming vista of the vineyards on the banks of the Labe, the bridge over the river and the junctions of the Vltava Canal and the Vltava itself with the Labe. After visiting the Castle, we move on to a wine cellar where we may taste wines and enjoy light refreshments.

Bettina Lobkowicz continues an ancient tradition by only producing wines in her cellar from the grapes cultivated in the historical Lobkowicz vineyards Trojslava, Velclovka, Koráb, Thunovka, Sirotčí, Klamovka, Městská, Turbovice, Šternberka and Trautmanka. These vineyards are situated at the southern and south-western River Elbe estuary with its warm microclimate at 200 metres above sea level. The newly reconstructed wine cellar is situated on the banks of the River Elbe, where the grapes are processed with great care by means of the latest technology. Beside red and white, there is also a selection of different types of their own sparkling wine, brandy, grape seed oil and Verjus. Taste these wines in the Winery’s attractive courtyard in an extraordinary atmosphere on the banks of the River Elbe.
